The Challenge
Create a distinctive and cohesive design language for Beurer’s new TempCheck® thermometer range - bringing three different measurement methods together under one recognizable product family.
With MultiSense, TouchFree and EarSense, the range addresses different user needs: forehead and ear measurement, as well as completely contactless temperature measurement. While each thermometer requires its own functional geometry, all three products needed to feel unmistakably connected. The challenge was to create a visual and tactile identity that communicates clarity, trust and ease of use while giving each product its own character and purpose.
The Solution
We developed a unified design language for the TempCheck® range that turns three different thermometers into one coherent product family. A clear set of shared design cues creates recognition across the range, while carefully differentiated forms communicate each product’s individual measurement method. The result is a consistent visual identity that simplifies orientation for users and establishes TempCheck® as a recognizable new category within Beurer’s portfolio.
The design language combines soft, approachable forms with precise, technical detailing, translating the medical functionality of the products into an intuitive and contemporary consumer experience.
Designing for Different Measurement Experiences
Although all three thermometers share the same core technology, their applications are fundamentally different.
MultiSense combines forehead and ear measurement in a single multifunctional device. Its form accommodates both measurement methods while maintaining a simple, intuitive interaction.
TouchFree is designed around completely contactless forehead measurement. Its distinctive geometry supports the intuitive positioning required for a quick and effortless reading.
EarSense focuses on ear measurement and incorporates a dedicated interface for hygienic use with disposable protective caps.
Rather than forcing the three products into an identical shape, we established a common design vocabulary that allows their individual forms to evolve around their specific functions.
Approachable Technology
Thermometers are functional medical devices, but their everyday use is highly personal.
We therefore translated the technical nature of infrared measurement into a product experience that feels calm, accessible and easy to understand. Clear interfaces and intuitive interaction support quick temperature checks, while the integrated colour-coded fever indicator provides an immediate visual interpretation of the result.
The products also connect the physical measurement experience with the digital ecosystem through Beurer’s HealthManager Proapp, where measurements can be stored, compared and tracked over time.
Designing Coherence
A strong product family needs to be recognizable before users even understand the individual product.
For TempCheck®, consistent proportions, surface transitions, detailing and interaction elements establish a common visual DNA across the range. This creates a sense of familiarity while helping users navigate the different product variants.
The result is a system that providesorientation at portfolio level and clarity at product level - making it immediately apparent that MultiSense, TouchFree and EarSense belong together.
A Family Built Around Clarity
TempCheck® brings together three measurement concepts under one recognizable identity.
The shared design language creates coherence across different forms and functions, while the individual products remain clearly differentiated by their use case. From the completely contactless TouchFree to the flexible MultiSense and focused EarSense, each product communicates its purpose at a glance.
The result is ascalable design system for a new thermometer family - one that combines medical functionality with the clarity, accessibility and consistency expected from a contemporary Beurer product range.
