BD Rowa's Smart UI for the next generation of pharmacy robots has been nominated for the UX Design Award 2026. We are proud to have partnered with the BD Rowa team as their design partner on this project.

About the award

The UX Design Awards, hosted by the International Design Center Berlin, recognise digital products and services that create real value for people through user-centred design. For the Autumn 2026 season, 195 projects from 46 countries have been selected from more than 500 submissions - the pool BD Rowa's Smart UI is nominated in. Winners will be announced on 2 September 2026 at 5 PM CEST in a public online ceremony. In a field where healthcare technology and industrial automation increasingly meet, the recognition signals that considered UX is becoming a genuine differentiator, not a finishing touch.

About the project

Pharmacies operate under pressure. Staff move between prescriptions, inventory, and patient care with little room for friction. Medication dispensing robots streamline the work, but their complexity can add cognitive load exactly where it is least welcome.

Together with BD Rowa, we designed a Smart UI that turns a complex machine into a trusted colleague. Core functions are one tap away, guided workflows walk staff through routine tasks, a structured notification system surfaces what is urgent, and step-by-step guidance simplifies troubleshooting in the moments when speed matters most. New team members can be onboarded quickly, and experienced staff can rely on the same interface at higher pace.

The design is grounded in in-context field research with pharmacists in Germany, the UK, and Italy - observing real workflows, uncovering pain points, and reconciling different regulatory and dispensing practices in a single, coherent interface. FLUID's Continuous Discovery approach kept user needs at the centre of every design decision, from early concept through to the rollout-ready UI.
