The Challenge
Swiss Medical Device Manufacturer STORZ MEDICAL approached FLUID to reimagine their entire external shock wave therapy device lineup for use in orthopaedics, physiotherapy and physical- & rehabilitative medicine.
The Solution
In order to provide Storz Medical with not just an aesthetically pleasing but also highly adaptable and perfectly performing design we had to deeply immerse into the product’s context. By understanding patients’ and practitioners’ needs, as well as the business needs of Storz Medical and their customers we were able to improve on the product family’s countless features and functional elements. We did not only redefine the entire product architecture but improved handling, comfort and usability before, during and after treatment.
Integrated product development
We spent time with practitioners, doctors, hospitals and orthopaedic clinics to learn first-hand about the use of the product and all the associated requirements. This hands-on approach revealed countless opportunities for innovation and improvement. Our close collaboration with the Storz Medical engineering team, marked by short iteration cycles and swift decision-making, fostered a dynamic and productive exchange. The result? An exciting and forward-thinking design that benefits all stakeholders.
Adaptive and scalable
The updated design language we have developed for Storz Medical is recognizable and iconic - yet flexible enough to be applied to many different devices and products. We have designed an ecosystem that represents a major step forward for Storz Medical as a brand while providing practicability and added value for their present and future business.
Everything at its place
Ergonomic optimization of all of the products’ touchpoints - particularly of the various treatment hand-pieces has been one of the focus-points of our work. Is everything in reach when I need it? Is working with the product self-explanatory and effortless? Do I enjoy using the device and does it make my work with patients easier?
Holistic User Experience
We have been looking at the entire product experience from a 360° angle. The physical properties from storage to mounting and assembly, from operating to moving the product around have been equally important as the digital software interaction, the graphical user interface and the experience in handling of the handpieces. By treating the user journey as a fluid, interconnected experience, we achieved a significant leap forward in usability, making everyday interactions with the product more intuitive and enjoyable.
We greatly appreciate FLUID’s work and their deep understanding of both the functional and aesthetic aspects of our products. Their structured yet creative approach led to a design that is not only innovative but also highly practical for everyday use.
