Designing a Self-Service HR Experience

The challenge

Siemens Energy needed a digital solution for their internal compensation processes. The key challenge was an information architecture intelligently linking a wide variety of highly complex data and bring them together in a single, easy-to-use touchpoint.

The result

COIN is a completely new Software User Experience for HR processes, empowering all Siemens Energy managers and employees across the globe to holistically manage multiple compensation topics of their personnel in a high-usability self-service fashion.

One touch-point. Many cases.

Merging a variety of tools into one single user interface.

COIN creates transparency and guidance when it comes to managing a fair compensation at Siemens Energy.

The COIN platform not only empowers all Siemens Energy managers across the globe to manage their own HR matters. It also enables a fair, equal and unbiased compensation process by providing necessary information and AI-powered recommendations for an objective decision-making process.

Fast development of concepts and low-fidelity prototypes to test usability and product requirements.

Designing a tool that serves managers across the globe, required setting up a solid information architecture. It had to be capable of intelligently linking a wide variety of use cases and data streams as well as handling all complexity in the background and bring them together in a clearly structured, easy-to-use HR tool.

Focusing on important data while reducing information overload.

Manager self-service in over 80 countries with different levels of digital literacy is only possible with a clear and intuitive design language. Therefore our core design challenge was transforming high complexity and functionality into an understandable and easy-to-use tool for everyone in the company.

Hence, during development, we strictly focused on usability and simplicity to create a self-explanatory tool with a crystal clear design language and consistent elements ensuring a great User Experience.

Adapting to the changing needs of users, it continuously provides the perfect tool for their needs.

In order to create an agile user-experience, it was key to look closely at every part of the process and to understand the initial, as well as the changing and upcoming user needs.

With this method we were able to improve the user experience for daily HR tasks to an extent that easily allows a “self-service” use.

"Together with  FLUID, we were able to create the best possible user experience for COIN, allowing all different types of users to get information intuitively or handle self-service processes efficiently.“

A design system built to scale.

The continuing changes and evolution of product requirements and functionalities require a flexible design system that can be scaled and adapted to future challenges.

We developed a structured architecture that separates the design system into three different layers, each building on top of the others. This gave us a solid foundation with highly flexible options for adding new components.
