The importance of information architecture when designing for large corporations
Information architecture deals with the meaningful organization and structuring of content, with the goal that users can quickly find and access it.
When we design digital products for clients, we are always information architects as well. If these clients are large corporations, this aspect of our work plays a particularly important role.
Large corporations with hundreds of thousands of employees are highly complex organizations. We are currently developing digital tools for such a client. The procurement of the data relevant to the project from countless data sources alone is a huge challenge.
Even though nothing is visible, the future user experience lying in the far distance and the questions asked are purely structural, we can never provide meaningful information without a well thought-out architecture.
It always starts with the questions
What data do we need?
Where do we get it from?
How do we have to prepare and structure it?
What priority is given to which data?
And later of course: how can we present it as an an outstanding User Experience?
What helps us enormously in the process: to divide a complex topic into as small chunks as possible and thus work our way forward step by step - from the rough to the fine and the many important steps in between.
To develop good information systems and create user-friendly digital products and systems, it is not only experience and the knowledge about potential hurdles and stumbling blocks. It is also the very close and cooperative partnership we maintain with our customers that make many things a lot easier and ensure a project success.
